Plantation Party!

Saturday evening, Brad and I made the little less than an hour drive out to Davant Plantation to attend the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce 50th birthday party celebration. The hospital sponsored a table at the event, and we were lucky enough to be able to fill 2 of the seats! The place was amazing and I was just taken in with how beautiful it was. The party was on the side grounds adjacent to the main house under a huge tent with chandeliers. The band was up on the porch area of the side of the house complete with a dance floor! To top it all off, there were ladies walking around in hoop skirts :)

Before supper was served, a brief history of the plantation was given and I learned that Davant was the primary filming site of the 1995 movie Something to Talk About starring Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid, and Robert Duvall! I have seen that movie but am going to have to watch it again and look for the plantation scenes!

I am always partial to movies that are filmed in the Lowcountry and think it is fun to see the filming locations. My last experience with movies was when the The War starring Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood was filmed on some of my grandparents property in Northern Beaufort County. The crew built the most magnificent tree house there for the movie!

When I was in the 5th grade, Nick Nolte came to Beaufort Academy to follow around and interview one of the faculty members who was a teacher/coach for research in his role in the Prince of Tides. I remember looking out of the window to see the "movie star" but do not actually remember laying my eyes on him. Perhaps some of my classmates do? There have been so many other movies in this area including: The Big Chill, The Prince of Tides, GI Jane, Forrest Gump, The Great Santini, Rules of Engagement, The Legend of Bagger Vance, The Generals Daughter, and Forces of Nature just to name a few!

What a great area we live in! I should be a chamber of commerce ad....
